                           LIFE IS GOOD
Our son will be one of very few in his generation who can remember back to just how good a 25 cent ice cream really tastes!!  O.K.  It's a 27 cent ice cream if you want to get technical, but when the sun is warm and the golden arches are calling out to a two year old I sure do look like a hero when I can deliver... Sure son, I can handle 1 Dirham to make you smile through your ice cream "root-beard" as Trevor calls it.  Every time we get into a taxi or onto a bus Trevor is never shy about asking to see if our driver has a root-beard!  All are happy to oblige our son and turn around to look at him at every red light we encounter.  All try to get any attention our son will grace them with and as he becomes more accustomed to all of the attention he is becoming more generous with his affection for his fell countrymen(most of whom do not actually hail from this country originally)  He seems to be most popular with the Asian women who push each other out of the way to rub his hand or arm or cheek as if he were a lucky rabbits foot!  Trevor seems to be getting used to and just stands there until they get their fill, especially if they are serving the ice cream!
As for the rest of the food, it is as diverse as the population and as varied as the semi-local Californians selling Tamale's in the parking lot to the 5 star restaurants in the big cities.  We decided to pass(well Erin dragged me away like a slobbering dog) from the 650 Dirham Tomahawk steak that was being served at "The Meat Co."  For those of you who are not up on your most amazing cuts of meat, this is a bone on Rib-Eye steak that is full of flavor and... Oh you get the picture and frankly I can't think about it any longer.  Beef is probably the one thing that we are learning to eat MUCH less of because it is quite expensive.  The 650 Dirham works out to roughly $177.59 and yes that is American dollars but I will be back, my little pretty... for a special occasion of course!  Now back to reality and the very best item on the dollar menu.  I thought I had found it about two days after we arrived--the chicken shwarma.  Chicken roasted and then sliced off of a skewer upon ordering and placed in very thin flat bread(like a tortilla) with a couple of french fries, a pickle, and a wonderful garlic olive oil whip(think mayonnaise with LOTS of garlic--gives Gilroy a run for their money kind of Garlic!) And then what do I find out two weeks after eating these just about daily, they have a SPICY chicken shwarma! Oh yes, it is that good.  Just add hot sauce to the above and everything gets just a little bit better!  Not so hot that you burn your mouth off, just another level of flavor town U.A.E.
